About
Mashael Alsaie (b.1994, Bahrain) is a Bahraini multimedia artist and photographer whose practice embodies a rigorous, research-driven interpretation of Bahraini mythologies, articulated through text, image, and glass. Her work, interwoven with the speculative dimensions of science fiction and the critical lens of ecofeminism, delves into the collective consciousness embedded in cultural myths such as the legend of the Adhari Spring.
Alsaie's research-focused practice reflects a profound engagement with biomimicry and folklore. Since 2018, her work has explored unraveling land practices, weaving poetic, emotive, and personal traces into her art. These installations serve as a dialogic interplay between the natural and the anthropogenic, pushing her exploration of ecological systems and human narratives.
Alsaie's work has been prominently featured in exhibitions at KBHG Basel (2023), Warehouse421 (2021), Misk Riyadh (2020), and PS122 New York (2019). She has participated in residencies, such as Residency Unlimited in Brooklyn (2020), the Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation (2021), and Samt Alternative Art School (2022).
Notable features in publications include Canvas Magazine, Mousse Magazine, Tribe Magazine, i-D Magzine, Vogue Arabia, Vogue Italia, Postscript Magazine, AlJazeera Plus, Emirates Woman, Womena, Hypebeast Online, Hypebeast/Adidas, MinaaZine, Harpers Bazaar Arabia, Mille Magazine, The Modern East, Nasi Magazine, Jdeed Magazine, KQED.
